Santa Cruz to ask Congress to look into impeaching Bush
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2003/09/06/state1822EDT0087.DTL

The city of Santa Cruz is no stranger to left-leaning political firsts and it's poised to add another as the city council looks to become the first lawmaking body in the nation to ask Congress to look into impeaching President Bush.

Santa Cruz leaders want to see Bush dumped, charging he misled the American public about the war on Iraq and ran roughshod over civil rights. The council will consider Tuesday a measure that, if passed, would give members the the go-ahead to send a letter of inquiry to Congress.

"You need to speak up when you see evil being done," said councilman Mike Rotkin, who has also previously served three terms as mayor for quirky Santa Cruz.

Rotkin insists that it is important to divulge the `truth' about the Bush administration's assertions that Iraq was stockpiling weapons of mass destruction.

3. LOL! I love this town!
I figured our city leaders renounced Bush as president a long time ago.

But I'm equally sure that anything with a 95060 zip code on the return address gets forwarded to the trash (or maybe to the FBI) in Washington.

Mike Rotkin was one of my professors at UCSC many years ago, he's a hardy socialist and a heck of a guy.

Go Santa Cruz!

4. My only problem with this is
that it is taking them too long to do it.

8. Ha, then you would love to see...
the holes in the ground that remain from the earthquake in 1989.
Some things happen just a little slower around here...

On the other hand, we were the first town (and the only?) to start a Jerry Garcia Grief Support Group, right after he died. :)

11. Even if the place really is quirky
I think that the use of that word here seems to indicate that the idea of impeaching Bush is quirky. "Those crazy loons from Santa Cruz, get a load of what these fruitcakes wanna do now!"

12. Problem:
Impeaching Too Stupid to Flip Burgers, Jr. will do nothing. There is a much bigger cabal at work here (you all know that already).

Removing Dubya will only make him the Lee Harvey Oswald of the 21st century. Removing a puppet will not change the plans of the puppetmasters.

Sorry...I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but this is the truth when you think about it. If you are going to impeach W, you have to put in Cheney, Rumsfeld et al to do this right.

And isn't it a beautiful day in Santa Cruz today??

The kids are back in school, tourists have gone home, waves are starting to come up...

I've lived all around the world, and I can't imagine living anywhere else but here.
