Indiana governor reportedly collapses

CHICAGO - Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon was taken to a hospital Monday, and broadcast reports said he had collapsed.

O'Bannon, 73, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 9:30 a.m. local time, hospital spokeswoman Kelly Sullivan said. She said O'Bannon was undergoing tests, but she did not know the diagnosis.

"I know it's a very serious situation," she said.

Chicago television station WMAQ reported that O'Bannon was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital.

O'Bannon was at the Palmer House Hilton, where he was attending a conference of the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association. Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan also was at the conference.
