Colo. Wal-Mart Makes Effort to Unionize
Colo. Wal-Mart Makes Effort to Unionize

Tue Nov 30,12:51 PM ET

The National Labor Relations Board planned a hearing Thursday to consider the workers' request to be represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7.

"Wal-Mart workers don't have to be second-class citizens," said Ernest Duran Jr., president of the union, which also represents more than 17,000 grocery workers at King Soopers, Safeway and Albertsons stores.

Union officials argue the workers in the automotive service department are separate from the store and eligible for independent union representation. Wal-Mart officials disagree.

However Walmart is well known for keeping out Unions. I am glad to see that Walmart had a bad shopping season opening Day.

6. Wisc. Badger, In Just A few Words, A Terrific First Post......!
Declaring Your Disgust with the predator, Wal-Mart!

Reading about wal-mart's report to stockholders
giving a dramatically reduced
forth quarter projected sales figure
was very good news.

9. If the NLRB was not repub packed
If Walmart shut-down the union stores, then the NLRB would shut-down Walmart and fine them whatever cash they had left. After this, then a bankruptcy trusty could auction the store properties to private entrepreneurs to reopen the local stores under other owners.

I think this would send a message to corporations about following existing labor laws.

4. Wal-Mart shut down the meat departments
in a great many of its Texas stores, rather than have to deal with their union.

Goddamn Wal-Mart. Another reason why I hate shopping there.

10. Any Labor Attorneys out there that can explain the legal
issues involved? It seems Wal-Mart is stacking its case on the fact that only 17 out of 400 want (or have applied) for representation.
