Phelps Clan Protests As NYC Gay High Opens

Protestors shouting "Die Fags" and carrying anti-gay placards demonstrated in front of New York's Harvey Milk High as the LGBT school opened for the fall term this morning.

The small group of protestors, numbering fewer than a dozen, were members of Rev Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church, who had traveled to New York from Topeka Kansas.

"Repent your sodomy," Phelps yelled as students entered the building.

By their ridiculous, awful message, they do more for the cause of understanding and acceptance than for their own brand of blind hatred.

Hopefully, by alienating everyone ("Thank God for 9-11" on one sign!) they will bring people together that might not have seen common ground otherwise.

I have this vision of him making late-night visits to tearooms, out on the Kansas interstates. A very conflicted fellow. Very.

I picture the New York City Gay Men's Chorus as the most laudable expression of love and charity toward these repugnant bigots.

Being a somewhat vulgar person - I also picture a large crowd of burly gay bikers wearing nothing but leather vests and chaps serenading the Fred Phelps crowd and handing out little buckets of Crisco.
