WASHINGTON, DC At a press conference this morning, Presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean received the endorsements of 6 members of the Washington DC City Council, representing a majority of the Democratic members.
Jack Evans, Chair Pro Tempore of the City Council and representative from Ward 2, said, "Governor Dean is great on local issues. He supports full voting rights for the residents of Washington, DC and has a great understanding of issues of importance to urban America. Nationally, he is the best alternative to the current occupant of the White House. He is a straight shooter and knows how to energize our economy."
Council Member Vincent Orange of Ward 5 said, "I support Governor Dean because of his commitment to providing quality education to all of America's youth. Governor Dean will not leave any child behind, unlike our current President."
Jim Graham, Council Member from Ward 1, admires Governor Dean's courage. Said Graham, "I think Governor Dean is a courageous man. I base that on the courageous stand that he took when he signed and did not veto the civil unions bill in Vermont. The fact that he took a stand and stuck by it matters a great deal. We need this type of courage in the White House."
Governor Dean said, "This campaign is about building community and giving people a reason to vote again. This administration has ignored issues important to urban America, has failed to stimulate the economy, and has divided us by race with his words and actions. Today, I am proud to receive the endorsements of six leaders in the Washington DC community who will work with our campaign to take our country back."
