Eight U.S. Marines killed in Iraq's Anbar province (#1286.....#1293)
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 01:31 AM by Olive

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Eight U.S. Marines were killed in two separate incidents in Iraq's restive Anbar province, the military said Monday, a day after American warplanes pounded Fallujah with missiles as insurgents battled coalition forces in the city.

The deaths equaled the highest number of Marines killed in a single day since a car bomb killed eight outside Fallujah on Oct. 30, which was the deadliest attack against the U.S. military in nearly six months.

It was unknown if the deaths Sunday were connected to the fighting in the volatile western Iraqi city of Fallujah. In a statement, the military said the seven Marines with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force died while conducting ''security and stabilization operations'' in Anbar province, a vast region that comprises Fallujah and Ramadi.

The military had earlier reported another U.S. Marine death Sunday in Anbar.

8. Fallujah is where they are shooting cats and dogs.
I haven't heard of that being done in other cities.

4. Fallujah.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked, Anbar province pretty much consisted of Fallujah, Ramadi, assorted minor villages of no real importance, and a crapload of desert where the local residents, if any, are unaware that Saddam Hussein has fallen. Besides that, based on history, I think we can safely say that when they say 'Anbar' they mean 'Fallujah, but we don't want to actually say the name Fallujah.'

5. Well? Was it due to inefficient or unavailable personal body armor?
Or was it due to the fact that there's no Humvee armor?

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Or was it due to the fact that there's no truck armor?

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

BTW, when you *see* military Humvees in Iraq on our American television channels, do those those Humvees look as if they have that armor as depicted above? Correct me if I am wrong, here, but I've never seen one of those armored Humvees on television.

6. I've never seen a Humvee that looks like that
maybe I'm just not paying attention but that diagram seems
more radical than anything I have seen in Iraq

9. I've seen footage of humvees with additional armor.
It was black material bolted onto the doors. I don't know if it was the official armor upgrade, or the roll-your-own hillbilly armor, but it didn't look very impressive.

"Ballistic windows repel shrapnel and small arms fire"

I notice a conspicuous non-mention of high explosives and rocket propelled grenades.
