House Republicans Blast Iraq Policy Critics

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group of House of Representatives Republicans said on Wednesday that Democrats criticizing the Bush administration's plan to stabilize Iraq were damaging that effort and endangering U.S. troops.

But as administration officials lobbied for an $87 billion spending package largely for Iraq, some Republicans questioned whether the State Department should take a larger role in Iraq's reconstruction and whether Baghdad should have to pay back some of the money.

Rep. Ed Schrock of Virginia told a news conference that "all the sniping we've been hearing on TV about the president and how he's handling the situation ... plays into the hands of the enemy."

He said the nine Democrats running for president were "trying to make this look like the worst thing that's ever happened. Frankly this administration has done a magnificent job and more people need to come out and say that."

They work for us (300 million of us) and as one of those paying their salaries, I feel entitled to a few honest answers.

First question: Why did we publicize Shock and Awe? I mean why give the enemy our battle plan? Irrational exuberance?

Second question: Did you ever stop to think what Saddam would do when confronted with an overwhelmingly superior force? Like maybe, putting up token resistance (How many jet fighters did they put in the air?), going into hiding (Where is Saddam anyway?), letting us blow the place to smithereens and then; picking us off, one by one, as we try to pick up the pieces.

Third question: Did it ever occur to you that the cost to rebuild Iraq was directly proportional to the cost of destruction? Shock and awe for Iraq has become “Shock and Ouch” for the American taxpayer. Was all that “Awe” really necessary or was it just for effect?

Forth question: Where are those WMD?

Fifth question: Why did we invade Iraq? I know you told us, but it just seems the reasons they are a changing. Let see, it was a preemptive strike to spread freedom and democracy? Or was it theocracy? Oil oligopoly? No, no, I remember. We just wanted a centrally located, neutral field where we could invite all the terrorists to give us their collective best shot.

Sixth question: How are we doing? I mean you want me to help raise 87 billion dollars w/o an explanation?

As the Congress approves their $$87$$$ billion shopping spree, we are moving towards being wiped out financially. We're short-staffed in Iraq. We can't spare any troops, they are all spoken for.

They are putting us in a very vulnerable position, militarily. Not all countries are our friends!!! There may even be some who are watching (with disbelief, I might add), and wondering if the US is becoming vulnerable.

How many billions will we spend next year in Iraq? We can't afford to throw more money down this black hole. I don't think they know what to do next.
