See, if there is an attempt by insurgents to execute a coup in Saudi against the Royal Family, then we will "have" to invade and occupy Saudi "to protect the world's supply of oil." In Saudi, it's easier, because the city centers are more dense, and the oil fields are essentially wastelands--you can see the insurgents coming from miles away. Those fields are easier to protect, those populations are easier to isolate and lock down. Also, the oil is light and sweet, the refineries are modern and efficient, and the distribution system is not held together with bubble gum and baling wire. If we make the move quickly and decisively, we could own the joint with scarcely a shot fired. It would require draconian measures, but hey, the women won't even notice the difference, except that their husbands will be around a bit more, and not over in Bahrain boozing it up and getting laid.

Iran sells too much of their oil to China. We'd have to bump heads with the Chinese if we go into Iran, and we aren't willing to do that. But Saudi Arabia? Who likes those guys, anyway? Nobody! They keep their women locked away (ahhh, we can play the "free Saudi women to let them drive cars and go to school!" card! They claim to be the guardians of the Holy Places, they run the whole Hajj and make a bundle off it, but the more devout fundamentalists think they soil the sacred ground of Mecca and Medina, because these "guardians" can be spotted in the drinking and gambling dens of London, Paris, Switzerland and Monaco on any given day. And now is as good a time as any to point out that most of them there hijackers were SAUDIS.

Plus, we already have a few very nicely equipped bases in Saudi. The work that we don't do for their national defense is negligable--we are, in essence, their military, bought and paid for with black gold. The rest of the service industry and most of the labor that takes place over there is done by filipinos, indonesians, koreans, and other assorted "other country nationals." All the while, Saudi young men are unemployed, indolent, angry, irritated and ready for change, which is not coming anytime soon. Saudis can't get hired because they don't have a work ethic, want too much money for doing very little, and haven't adjusted to an economy where having a job means actually showing up and WORKING. They are a train wreck about to happen. Perhaps Osama is going to push the buttons that allow us to "save the oil fields" for the "good of the world." And of course, we'll benefit from all that cheap gasoline for our huge SUVs. Screw global warming--we gotta drive big cars!

Nothing would surprise me, and this scenario certainly wouldn't.
