NEW YORK (AP) _ Bernard Kerik, who withdrew his nomination for homeland security secretary amid revelations of his involvement in several scandals, did not fill out a background form when he was appointed police commissioner in 2000, city officials said Thursday.
The Department of Investigation said it is examining Kerik's tenure as head of the New York Police Department but declined to cite specifics.
"DOI is absolutely seeking facts and doing interviews and looking for answers," the department said in a statement Thursday.
Under the current mayoral administration, those nominated as agency commissioners must fill out background forms. A DOI spokeswoman declined to say whether that rule applied to previous administrations.
