Rupert Murdoch could soon be the owner of the most expensive home in Manhattan after reportedly bidding $44m for the Fifth Avenue penthouse once inhabited by one of the Rockefeller dynasty.
If the offer is accepted, the billionaire media mogul will become the proud owner of a three-storey apartment at 834 Fifth Avenue opposite Central Park Zoo.
The contract has not yet been signed but if the deal goes through it would be the highest price ever paid for a Manhattan apartment, according to the New York Times, which reports that the monthly maintenance fee alone is $21,469.07.
The 20-room apartment boasts 8,000sq ft of floor space and terraces on each floor, according to the New York Times.
