Iraqis do not trust Americans, says poll
http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1059479720102&p=1012571727162

Braving bullets, arrests and hot pursuit while carrying out the first scientific survey of Iraqi public opinion, pollsters commissioned by a conservative US think-tank have discovered that most Iraqis do not trust Americans and want to be left alone.

John Zogby, president of Zogby International which completed the poll last month, summed up the findings on Wednesday, saying that, like most Arabs, Iraqis want to "control their own destiny", without the intervention of outside forces, and are confident in their own ability.

"Now that tyranny is over," he said, "it is time to move forward but not as a colony."

In that sense Iraqis broadly agree, but for different reasons, with the Bush administration's stated goal of handing over power and getting out as soon as possible.

3. I Don't Understand
Why don't the Iraqi's trust us? Can't they see we're just trying to help them?

Most countries would be DAMN GRATEFUL if we went in and destroyed THEIR infrastructure, kept the electricity off for months, bombed the everlasting piss out of them, killed them, maimed them, stationed troops all over the place, set up checkpoints where civilians are killed by paranoid troops, and allowed their national treasures to be looted.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE IRAQIS, ANYWAY?

5. Some get it as you do. Some don't, or just won't
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1504&ncid=1504&e=3&u=/afp/20030911/ts_afp/iraq_worldwrap_030911095306

This soldier just doesn't get it.<snip>"This is all about September 11 and there are a lot of terrorists in this country and we're making it difficult for them, and in the long run this will make a difference," Specialist Jerry Dillon said at Baghdad Airport.

This one does though.<snip>"I haven't seen my family for two years. Right now I'd like to be home," said Sergeant Brian Sparks, standing guard outside the airport gates. "These people are not terrorists, so where's the significance about being here?"

8. Spin Spin Spin
Watch them trot out the usual suspects this weekend, citing that poll as we're making progress in Iraq. Think of how popular we were in that country prior to the Invasion <g>.

After WhistleAss' remarks the other day, we're in this country for the long haul and that's with the "welcome mat" splattered with the blood of thousands of Iraqi people whose only crime was where they were born and the color of their skin.

Last night I heard that pompous Ass, Christopher Hitchens already trail-baloooning this one...claiming that all our media (and I'm sure that goes double for the Guardian and other REAL journalistic outlets) focus' on the deaths and sabotage and not the development of local councils and restoration of services. Sheesh, why doesn't this oxygen thief just come out and apply for an RNC job.

Zogby has always been very Pro-Arab in his polling in that area. I think his brother is the President of one of the largest Arab-American lobbying groups. Seems his recent polls...the first to show negative numbers for Whistleass' election last year, then the fist major poll in California showing Bustamonte with a big lead, and now this one. Agenda anyone?

18. I trust them as much as I trust the pronouncements of Osama or Brezhnev
They and the Busheviks are certainly in the same ballpark, given the number and frequency and odiousness of their lies, not to mention their contempt for those they ae telling the lies to.

Remember when we could believe our govenrment at least a bit more than guys like Osama.

But those days are over now, and I think there's probably a grain of truth to Osama's assertion that the Empire is shielding true casulaty numbres.

Given the wretched remnants of the Old Republic and the Formerly Free Press, occasioinally their more direct efforts slip through...like this one.

A soldier killed after his Jeep crashed after it took arms fire was listed as accidental.

So the question only remains is how MUCH lying are the Busheviks engaging in? Have they taken Soviet-style steps to cover up casualties or are they sticking to the soft-marketing kind of lies?

God, I miss the Old Republic. God, I miss believeing that our nation at least told some of the truth half the time.

Now they are like Osama, Marcos, Amin, Brezhnev and the rest.

People here get pissed off about the same things people 'there' (meaning everywhere) get pissed off at. Yet they don't understand.

14. Conservative think tank poll trying to sway opinion
that a US pullout (after making a huge mess of the country) would be OK since the Iraqis don't trust us anyway. The Bushistas can't get the UN to clean up their mess so they need to find a way to justify just walking away from it. Typical of the way these foul bastards do business.

Have the Corportists stolen all they can from the US treasury (Joe Blow Taxpayer) that they can under the guise of 'fighting terrorism' on the Iraqi front? Must be time for a vacation, huh?

Billy_Pilgrim! Used two different ISPs and your little sign ID'd me each time. That sucks! ...and where can I get that?

on edit:

Got the site via using properties. Now, I really want to get the software to hide! Geez Louise! Is way too easy to get info on someone online. Am no neophyte surfer, but just lax about security beyond using my Norton Firewall and Anti-virus.

25. I harp this point to my right wing associates constantly
Let's take a quick look over the past 25 years:

1.) The US helped install Saddam.

2.) The US encouraged Saddam to go after Iran.

3.) The US looked the other way when he gassed his own people and the Iranians because it suited our purpose at the time.

4.) The US allowed Saddam to sack Kuwait by telling Iraq and Kuwait that they were on their own to settle their differenced when Kuwait was slant drilling under Iraq. Then the US turned around and called the whole world down on Iraq and killed Iraqis by the thousands.

5.) The US encouraged the Kurds and Shiites to rise up and overthrow Saddam, and then left them to die at Saddam's hands. I wonder how many of those mass graves were the result of this FUBAR?

6.) The US and the UN maintained the sanctions on Iraq, indirectly killing God knows how many more of them.

7.) Then Bush launched his oily little Empire building scheme killing Lord only knows how many more, occupying their country and just about sending their society back to the Stone Age.

With this history I wish I knew what folks are smoking to believe that the Iraqis would ever trust us.
