ABC Pays to Use Historic 9-11 Video
Isn't it a little disturbing that people are continuing to profit from 9/11? Two years later, even?

:-(

NEW YORK - Hours after ABC News thought it had bought exclusive rights to the only known video footage that shows both planes hitting the World Trade Center, a New York television station began showing a copy it said had been obtained for free.

The news station New York 1, part of AOL Time Warner, said it had been given the tape by a man who said he objected to people "profiting from someone else's tragedy."

The videotape, whose existence only recently became known, was shot by an immigrant construction worker making a sightseeing tape as he was riding in a sport utility vehicle from Brooklyn to Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001.

The first plane's impact was caught on tape as the vehicle was approaching the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. Upon emerging from the tunnel, cameraman Pavel Hlava pointed the camera at the burning north tower and caught the second plane.

3. Yes, I'm certain that, for example, the children I'm watching on TV...
... right now, reading the names of the perished, would much rather have a shiny new Schwinn bike than their father back.

/end sarcasm

7. Thanks for setting 'em straight, JEN!
When I think of a young lady I know--the daughter of a friend of mine who works for a department of the City of Wilmington now, but is a native New Yorker. Her ex-husband--the young lady's father--was on the 86th floor of Tower 2 when it was hit. He came down with that building. :-(

That girl is beginning her freshman year at Carolina right now, but I'm sure going to class today will prove especially difficult, if not impossible. This is the day she lost her dad--and I think it's safe to say she did not "profit" from that loss in the least.

Today it's important--no, it's vital--for us to pause, simply to remember all of the losses--whether they were in the Trade Center, the Pentagon, on the flight that crashed in Pa., or on any one of those planes. To think of them, and the families and friends they left; to be with those people, even if only in spirit. And pray that nothing else like that will be allowed happen to them--and to us--again.

B-)

5. Profit is earnings minus loss
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 09:10 AM by GiovanniC
I seriously doubt that the money the families of the victims have received has been greater than -- or even equal to -- their loss.

:wtf:

2. I hate to say it but
But people have been profiting from tragedy for centuries.

Pretty much any war movie is profiting on death and destruction, most news agencies do the same.

6. true
but there's something about this that disgusts me more so than other explotations.

I would be livid if it where my daughter having to read out my name and going through dealing with my death in such a public way.

I'm very angry that a full investigation has not been done. I want answers not memorials and day long coverage. I want the damn corporate media to do their damn jobs! Why can't we get 24/7 coverage of the questions that Kristen Breitweiser is asking?

8. Profit, Greed
The American way

After 9/11 people rushed to exploit new found surges in flag sales. We sell death just as rapidly as we sell life.

Our nation isn’t anything but one big Wal-Mart and your life is one of the items on the shelf.
