Living in 'Apocalyptic Fear'
by Tim Harper

WASHINGTON—Two years on, the shock has dissipated, the memory is more distant, but the fear remains.

Poll after poll released on the eve of today's second anniversary of the terrorist strikes on New York and Washington find Americans more fearful and fatalistic than they were a year ago, when the need to honor the victims supplanted the recurring vision of another attack.

<snip>

Fear is something this administration has been selling for two years. You sedate the populace with the drug of fear and maybe the electorate won't notice what a mess you have made, not only of domestic politics, but also our international relations. In order to conceal, disguise, dress up their own incompetence, they beat the constant threat of war and fear.

The Bush junta has turned us into a nation of cowards. :-(

Booms, lights ignite Twin Cities fright

Explosions and bright flashes on the eve of Sept. 11 led edgy southwest metro-area residents to flood police departments with calls.

The American Pyrotechnic Association's program, part of a week-long international convention in the Twin Cities, featured a fireworks display for industry representatives at Bloomington's Normandale Lake Park, near Interstate Hwy. 494 and Hwy. 100.

<snip> ... within minutes of the first boom, shortly after 9 p.m., emergency switchboards from Minnetonka to Golden Valley and Minneapolis lit up with hundreds of calls from anxious residents.

"It's right around 9/11, and everyone's a little jittery," said Sue Bonnick, an emergency communications supervisor for Minneapolis.

and ....

Minnesota Poll: 54% expect another terrorist attack

...A Star Tribune Minnesota Poll found that 54 percent of the state's residents say that another terrorist attack will be launched somewhere in the United States in the next few months. A year ago, the poll found that 60 percent of Minnesotans held that belief...

And there are severe consequences to long-term anxiety. The junta is making an entire nation fearful and paranoid -- and the end result of that isn't going to be pretty.

2. "sedate the populace with the drug of fear"?
More like "lobotomize the populace with the scalpel of fear", IMHO.

Well, seems to me that Rove isn't above stealing an idea from a Democrat like FDR, is he?

FDR was right, and the BFEE wants to make sure that we have a never-ending supply of FEAR so they can keep us in line better...

Sheep fear the Sheepdog...
