The $12 billion deal announced Monday, which would create the country's largest power supplier, also will eliminate 200 jobs in Pennsylvania and another 300 jobs in Illinois, according to Exelon Chief Executive John Rowe.
Rowe, who will become chief executive and president of the combined company, said most of the job cuts in Pennsylvania and Illinois can be achieved through retirement and attrition, so there will not be major layoffs there. He did not say how the job cuts would be achieved in New Jersey.
