4 Halliburton Workers Die in Iraq Attack



HOUSTON - Halliburton Co. lost four employees in the attack at a military base in Iraq (news - web sites), but a report that three other workers had also been killed proved erroneous, the Houston-based contractor said Wednesday.




"We are thankful and hopeful to learn that three of our subcontractors, contrary to the first reports, survived yesterday's attack," Halliburton spokeswoman Wendy Hall said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "However, we are deeply saddened to confirm that the losses did include four Halliburton employees."

Sixteen other Halliburton workers, including 12 subcontractors, were injured seriously when explosions rocked a mess tent during lunchtime Tuesday at the base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, company officials said.

but in a war zone, it goes with the territory, whether you're in combat fatigues or carrying around civilian ID. Haliburton shouldn't expect special treatment, just because its former CEO, who is still collecting Haliburton pay, is the VP.

Just commenting that these folks will likely get more armor or improved security measures and our troops will get the "Army they have".

This is a terrible loss of life, as are any of the others who have died there. Yet this incident is more likely to effect changes than most of the others.

It's a chow hall, so these were probably the cooks and line servers that they hired at below US minimal wage from poor countries like the Philippenes, Guatamala, and Indonesia to cut costs for non-combat/unskilled jobs they're supposed to provide.

The news reports are now speculating on the possibility of a suicide bomber rather than a mortar attack. That was my first thought, actually, when I heard about this.

Our tax money is being spent to pay Halliburton which is buying extremely expensive special risk life insurance for these people, and paying them large salaries to risk their lives to do whatever it is they are doing, and paying 'guards' to try to keep them from being blown up.

What an amazing clusterfuck of a foreign policy we have. Beyond imagination.
