WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) said on Thursday he would renominate a group of controversial judicial nominees who were blocked by Senate Democrats, signaling the start of a second-term battle over the make-up of the nation's top courts.

Emboldened by his re-election victory and gains by Republicans in the Senate, Bush plans to renominate a total of 20 nominees to the nation's court of appeals and district courts, the White House said.

These guys are right win fanatics and will help move all nominees out of committee. Frist is running for prez and will change the rules (nuclear option) so that the filibuster will not apply to judicial nominations. We are screwed.

Rumsfeld is an arrogant bastard who has made many enemies on capitol hill. He is abrasive, mean spirited and has stepped on many toes. The repub senators see this as an opportunity for pay back. Regarding judicial nominations, even the liberal repubs backed all of these nominations during the last session of congress. We should not confuse this personality conflict with Rumsfeld as a shift in policy on the part of the repubs. They would support Himler for the SCOTUS if AWOL nominated him.
