MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia has successfully test-fired a mobile version of the intercontinental Topol-M ballistic missile in the last of
four test-firings before its deployment next year, Interfax news agency has reported.

Known as Russia's most sophisticated nuclear missile, it can be fitted with a single or multiple warheads and hit targets more than
10,000 km (6,200 miles) away.

The firing was part of President Vladimir Putin's plan to turn Russia, whose Soviet-era missile arsenal needs serious renewal and
financing, into a major global military and nuclear power.

Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, who supervised Friday's firing from a mobile launch pad in Plesetsk in Arctic Russia, said its
financing would start early next year.

Doesn't this violate the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty that Reagan negotiated with Gorbachev? Does anyone know the current status of arms treaties between the US and Russia?

I remember now. The Bush administration has made so many appalling moves that I've developed a disassociate memory disorder where they are concerned. It's all so awful.
Here we see the implications of withdrawing from international treaties. It has the potential of undermining our own national security. The Pentagon will no doubt use this is justify even more big weapons programs while they ignore the basics for soldiers on the ground.
