World health officials seem in little doubt that we stand on the verge of another influenza pandemic.

Experts believe it highly likely that a bird flu virus will soon mix with a human or pig virus and pass from human to human.

Oxford has recently shown that one antiviral in particular - oseltamivir (Tamiflu) - will work to block all the known types of flu. This includes the strain scientists fear could be the one to trigger a pandemic, H5N1.

Tamiflu is a product of Donald Rumsfeld's old company Gliead Sciences. Rumsfeld was chairman of Gliead until taking office in 2001. The Bush administration botched our chances at a flu vaccination this year. Who, I ask you, stands to profit if a pandemic results?

Are you saying we should NOT be developing smallpox vaccines?

IIRC most Western Governments began frantic efforts to upgrade their smallpox vaccine stockpiles after 9/11. Why should the U.S. not be doing the same?

I live in Germany where the government went on a crash program to produce vaccines. Should U.S. citizens not have the same kind of access to vaccines if we get hit? Personally, I could give a damn which Pharma biggie makes the stuff. I just want to be covered.

5. Everyone should learn about Sambucol.

It isn't a panacea, but since the government seems all but willing to let nature take its course Sambucol could provide a little protection at home.

got the bird flu and they gave them huge doses of tamiflu, and the tigers died anyway.

It was never tested on felines! The drug itself might have been toxic to them.
