Vancouver council OKs residential sex trade
Edited on Fri Sep-12-03 04:18 AM by dArKeR
On the eve of opening North America's first safe-injection site for drug users, Vancouver City Council has now sanctioned the right of sex-trade businesses to operate from local residences.

In a surprise move, councillors voted 4-3 to include elements of the sex trade among approved businesses that a person can run from their home in the city's increasingly residential downtown core.

Such a move would certainly be a Canadian first, said Simon Fraser University criminologist John Lowman, an expert on prostitution law.

"Hats off to city council. This is a step in the right direction," Prof. Lowman said, citing the scores of street prostitutes who have died at the hands of customers in recent years.

6. Ahhh, my home and native land
Our new socialist city council is sure shaking things up! Promotion of the 'four pillars' drug strategy, extending bar hours to 4am, allowing the marijuania cafes to stay open, proposing a chnage to ward system (no wards previously meaning that city council was chosen by city-wide votes-votes dominated by the wealthy on the west side of the city) and now allowing sex-trade workers to LEGALLY get off the streets and into more regulated work environments. In a perfect world, there is no sex trade. We do not live in such a world. After the tragedy and fiasco of what has become the Pickton case, this was seen a necessary move.
