Wie eine erste Auswertung der Daten aus dem globalen satellitengestützten GPS-Vermessungsnetz des Internationalen GPS Services (IGS) am Astronomischen Institut der Universität Bern zeigt, hat das schwere Seebeben im Indischen Ozean die Position der Erdachse gegenüber ihrer Sollposition um rund 8 Zentimeter verschoben. Dies dürfte die grösste Verschiebung sein seit der routinemässigen Überwachung der Erdrotation mittels dem Global Positioning System (GPS, 1992) welche einem einzelnen Ereignis zuge-schrieben werden kann. Vorläufige Resultate zeigen zudem, dass sich eine GPS-Messstation in Singapur um rund 2 Zentimeter verschoben hat.

My theory is that if the earth is expanding, even a little bit, as it warms (warm things expand) there will be more earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.
