As of Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at least 1,325 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq (news - web sites) war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,041 died as a result of hostile action, the Defense Department said. The figures include three military civilians.

I can see them passing in review as they march bravely into their future. Thirteen hundred mostly teenagers. It would be the same be they Army, Marines or Air force. Same faces different uniforms.

2. U.S. Military deaths are pretty low overall.

If it was like 50/day or something like that, then i think the public would wake up and say, maybe it wasn't a good idea to invade after all.

If a few die a day, well then, that's ok.

Iraqi deaths really don't even make it on the radar screen for most people I'm afraid.

If we had Vietnam medicine or WWII we would have many more deaths.

But I agree as bad as the deaths are people have a threshold and a few a day does not worry people. It is sad but a fact of life...I hope it stays low or stops all together, enough had died already.

4. what's sad is that it doesn't seem that anybody cares...

just a few on DU, keeping a vigil by posting the numbers...but there is NO stories in the BIG papers and MSM...NOTHING when a person gives their lives for OUR Country....reminds me of Vietnam, where your name and rank gets put in the paper at the bottom of the column on page 27D along with the others that died....


bush* doesn't care - hasn't gone to ONE military funeral YET...including those dying from the DC National Guard, which bush* commands directly....

bush* minions don't care....the pentagoons just sit there and make inane remarks like: oh, that's good, low numbers of American deaths...wonderful...

the American People don't care, or they'd be in the streets and standing outside the White House every single day...

the Parents and Relatives of the DEAD Soldiers don't care..they go to the funeral, but say nothing about bush* actions, or object to bush* wars...very very few have OBJECTED to bush* sending their kids, dads, moms, brother/sisters off to the bush* GREAT STUPID WAR, with no armour, no supplies, no bullet proof vests...and when they come back in a box because of lack of armour on vehicles, NOBODY says anything...


and more and more Parents line up to sacrifice their children for bush* cannon fodder, which amazes me...

5. I thought I read somewhere that that figure is higher

than the number of US servicemembers killed in the first five YEARS of Vietnam. Anyone have any confirmation on that?

advisors etc.

All US military actions from 1982 to March of 2003 (in other words, leaving out Iraq) have total US killed as 544. Iraq we are up to 1325 in 21 months.

Interesting table.

44 US casualties during conflicts under Clinton. 444 with Reagan and bush I. So far, 1381 with bush II.

Lists Iraqi civilian deaths as being around 15,000. Huh. Not hardly.
