A Saudi national carried out one of the bloodiest attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq last month, killing 22 people including 18 Americans, reports said.
The Saudi daily al-Sharq al-Awsat said Monday that Ahmed Said al-Ghamidi, a Saudi who studied medicine at Sudan's Khartoum University, had carried out the suicide attack against the U.S. base in Mosul, north of Iraq.
The attack, which occurred as the troops gathered to have lunch at the base, killed 14 servicemen and wounded dozens.
The paper said it had received the information from Ghamidi's father, who had been informed of his son's activities by a group that contacted him claiming to represent the Iraqi resistance.
Ghamidi, 20, had dropped out of university suddenly, withdrawn all the money that his father had sent for his education, and used it to travel to Iraq through a neighboring country.
