51 percent oppose Bush request for more Iraq money: poll
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030913/pl_afp/us_iraq_bush_poll&cid=1521&ncid=1473

NEW YORK (AFP) - Fifty-one percent of Americans are opposed to President George W. Bush's request for an additional 87 billion dollars to fund operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a Newsweek.

On September 7, Bush said he will ask Congress for 87 billion dollars to cover military operations and reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan over the next year.

Twenty-one billion dollars will be set aside for reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan, and 66 billion dollars will be earmarked to support US military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries, the White House said.

The request is on top of the 79 billion dollars already authorized by Congress for Iraq's reconstruction earlier this year.

1. Yes, I saw this, but was surprised
that it is lower than I expected. Most people will react negatively when you ask them for a thousand bucks to rebuild (destroy? since most of the money is going to the military) some other country. I thought it might have been 60%.

2. It's about time we have an extreme poll
How about 90% against Bush? sounds like the right thing to do to me. These "50%" polls are just so, indecisive.

3. Zogby?
The article doesn't state which group did the polling or where the polling was done. Anyone have the Zogby numbers on this particular topic?

7. Thanks :-)
Link to poll much appreciated. Still would like to see Zogby poll on this. What service does Newsweek use for its poll reports, or do they conduct their own polls?

6. Good thing our superstructure
has been so well-invested in, as well as the protection of our air quality and national parks.

8. He'll still get the money
But maybe Democrats will at least ask some tough questions and show the Administration that Congress is not an ATM machine.

His terrible speech last week speech clearly did not persuade people.
