Homeland Security is doing a good job, right? Wrong. "In a clash between security and the First Amendment,
federal authorities are threatening criminal charges against ABC News reporters who smuggled harmless depleted uranium (15 lbs.) into the country for a second time during an investigation of border inspections. ABC News said Wednesday it believed its actions constituted legitimate investigative journalism that highlighted U.S. anti-terror security on the second anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
'In our view, we do not believe we are in violation of the law because it was not our intent to defraud the U.S. government, to smuggle in contraband or to avoid duties,' ABC News Vice President Jeffrey Schneider said. 'It was to test the system.' The report by investigative correspondent Brian Ross and his producers was broadcast Thursday night."
