Sugar Land police chief suspended-Probe finds policy violations in crash

SUGAR LAND -- Police Chief Michael Van Court was suspended for 15 days without pay after an internal probe found he violated city policies at the scene of an accident that he caused. snip

The chief, who has an annual salary of $86,778, began serving the suspension Friday.

The three-car accident occurred about 10 p.m. July 30 on Texas 6 near Kensington when Van Court struck another car from behind. He admitted to officers that he had a couple of drinks. snip

Despite his admission of drinking and a smell of alcohol, officers did not administer a field sobriety test because Van Court did not show signs of intoxication.
