BAGHDAD (AFP) - US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) arrived here to bolster the beleaguered occupation of Iraq (news - web sites) where tensions boiled after a shooting that left nine Iraqi security men dead from US gunfire.
In a new attack, one American soldier was killed and three wounded by an explosive device in the town of Fallujah west of Baghdad where anger still ran high after Friday's "friendly fire" tragedy.
He quickly went into talks with Paul Bremer, Washington's administrator for Iraq, kicking off a crowded day of meetings with US and Iraqi officials similar to the tour a week ago by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
