MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) -- Gunfire inside a hospital Sunday killed one person and wounded another, and police closed off the building to search for the shooter, authorities said.

Police closed off Rush Foundation Hospital in downtown Meridian after the shooting was reported about 11:30 a.m. A SWAT team was on the scene, but police in the east-central Mississippi city declined to discuss the incident further when contacted by The Associated Press.

WTOK-TV in Meridian reported that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute earlier Sunday in which one person was shot and taken to the hospital.

The victim's name or age was not immediately released by authorities, nor was the condition of the injured person.

Authorities were called to Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Unofficial reports indicate there was a domestic dispute at a residence earlier that sent two people to the hospital and another dispute apparently came to a head in the ICU.

Information gathered by Newscenter 11 indicates one person died of gunshot wounds from the shooting at the hospital.

Police closed off the hospital and a SWAT team was on the scene.
Authorities closed off the building while they searched for the suspected gunman
