Cocaine now cheaper than a cappuccino
the imports from Bush's Afghanistan must be helping things out ...

The Guardian:

The failure of the government's policy to stem drug imports is revealed today by research which shows that Britain is awash with cheap drugs, with a line of cocaine now costing less than a cappuccino.

The price of ecstasy, heroin, crack, cocaine and cannabis has tumbled to a record low in the last year, as dealers pumped ever greater quantities onto the market, encouraging hundreds of thousands of people to become regular users.

The failure by customs and police to smash trafficking gangs and cut off supplies to the streets is an embarrassment for Tony Blair.

4. Point well-taken, but coca doesn't grow in Afghanistan
only opium poppies...a problem that is already bad and going to get worse (or better, if you're an addict).

13. That's easy.
In Afghanistan. I doubt it's cheap by the time it gets here, but if you want to take a trip to Central Asia, then I'm game, too. Well.... you'll probably need the hash and heroin to deal with the place. It's not exactly comfortable living.

12. is there a standardized length for "lines" of cocaine?
if not these stories are meaningless. i propose one quarter of the distance between the collarbone and nipple of the average minor-league underwear model.

27. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too
The Fayettenam coffee shops are charging around four bucks for a "tall" cappucino. So I'd imagine it's double that, once you figure in the VAT, the "value-added tax" which is really a national sales tax, in England. At the current exchange rate, which is essentially $2/1GBP, a cappucino would be 4GBP.

Cocaine, on the other hand, has no VAT.

According to http://www.thegooddrugsguide.com (wonderful site, very little government bullshit), the street price for coke in the UK is between 30 and 60 British pounds per gram. If you can get ten lines out of a gram of cheap blow, you're looking at a 3GBP line versus a 4GBP cappucino.

The solution, as rodeodance has noted, is to get the caffeine pushers to cut THEIR prices.

Then again...how many people do you know who sit there with a cup of joe to the left and a line of blow to the right and think, "now which one of these should I do?"
