Pakistan's Musharraf in talks with top US general

31 minutes ago South Asia - AFP

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - The head of the US Central Command was in Pakistan for a meeting with key Washington ally President Pervez Musharraf, officials said.

General John Abizaid, who arrived in Islamabad on Sunday, was to hold talks with Musharraf and other senior Pakistani military figures on "regional issues of mutual interest", US embassy spokesman Greg Crouch said.

The visit by Abizaid, whose military zone includes most of Central Asia, including Afghanistan (news - web sites), and the Middle East, was part of "regular consultations" between the two countries, the spokesman added.

Islamabad has stood side-by-side with Washington since US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) launched the "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

1. I guarantee you that this includes sending Pakistani troops to Iraq.
With our own options dwindling and the easy way those troops can be passed off as Iraqis, the thought must be tempting.

2. "You can kiss my ass, and give me money, BUT - "
You're still not allowed to cross the border to get bin Laden."

"Okay, Mushie, whatever yoiu say, sir! Thanks for being a partner in the War on Terror. Now bend over." "Here's your check too."

Meanwhile the CIA surrogate says "Maybe it's better we didn't catch OBL" while Bush maintains his flip-flopping ignorance in the mater.

3. After they cover "regional issues of mutual interest" --
-- they'll probably go shopping.

Seriously, I wouldn't bet a lot of cash on Musharraf's life these days. Everything I've read suggests that he's unpopular, in large part because he's seen as Bush's boy. There's already been a handful of assassination attempts.

The biopic on Musharraf if ever there is one, should star Dustin Hoffman as Musharraf.

And maybe David Bowie as Osama, hunkered down in the mountain caves, planning and brooding.
