WASHINGTON - John Breaux, a Louisiana Democrat, will be one of the busiest recently retired senators, with four new positions.
Breaux started work Monday as senior counsel at Patton Boggs LLP, a law and lobbying firm that spent nearly $15 million on lobbying in the first half of 2004, according to disclosure records.
FECInfo, a company that tracks campaign finance and lobbying expenditures, said the spending figure places Patton Boggs first among lobbying companies.
The Clinton Group Inc., a New York investment firm managing $5 billion of capital, has announced Breaux would be senior managing director. The announcement also said Breaux would be senior adviser to a private equity fund manager.
He also is co-chairman of a presidential panel that will recommend ways to simplify the federal tax code.

So how many conflicts does he have between his position on the tax code review panel and his other positions?
Investment firm? Would they benefit from the Social Security privatization? Who will he lobby for? Why did I feel nervious when he was put on Bush's panel?
