SEATTLE - There's a new political ad that's creating a lot of buzz in the Northwest. It's designed to draw people to a web site to sign an online petition for a revote in Washington State, but it's the loud "buzzing sound" in the ad that has people talking.
Mary Dalton is one of nine randomly-selected people who watched the ad at Fisher Plaza. "I thought it was disgusting," she said after seeing the ad. "I thought, 'My God, there's an earthquake or something.'" "It sounds like a warning," said Susanna Wilson Lapan. "And then, or course, at the end when they have the 'now,' and it goes 'bling,' it's like all of our solutions will happen, if we revote right now!"
"My first impression was not favorable, that it was over the top," said Ernie Lassman. "However, once I thought about what it was about, and I was in favor of the message, I understood the sense of urgency."
KOMO TV has taken a number of calls from viewers who expressed concern that the ad's buzzing tone made it seem like an official warning, but Dick Warsinske, the station's general manager, said the ad will not be pulled.
The Dino Rossi campaign is also publicly supporting the revote ad. "The goal was not subtlety, but to really catch people's attention," said Rossi Spokeswoman Mary Lane.
