City Drops Citation Against Man With Anti-Bush Sign

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - The city dropped a public obscenity citation Tuesday against a man who erected an anti-war sign in a public square that mixed President Bush's name with a profanity.
Mike Wallschlaeger, 41, was issued the citation Friday after police received a complaint and ordered him to take the sign down. The ticket carried a $102 fine.

City Attorney Bill Nagle left a message with the Wausau Daily Herald Tuesday saying he was dismissing the citation, but had no further comment.

Wallschlaeger said he was confident he would have prevailed in court, calling the citation a violation of his constitutional rights.

The city may be trying to wiggle out of their blunder but I don't know if Mike will let it die so easily. After all it really wasn't about the sign but about trying to get us to give up the protest. This isn't the first time the police have tried to intimidate us to giving up. I just hope that it's the last.

If they ever figure out my "Stop terrorism Impeach Bush" sign out they'll demand I stop carrying that too. I did think about spelling it out for them with a Bush is a terrorist sign but I think I'll pass on that for a while.
