Head of U.S. news quits at CNN

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Teya Ryan has resigned as U.S. chief of the CNN news operation, AOL Time Warner Inc. said Monday, and will be replaced by Princell Hair, a television news executive at Viacom Inc.

CNN News Group President Jim Walton also announced several organization changes, saying "a fundamental component of our operating structure is built for yesterday, not tomorrow."

Hair assumes the position of executive vice president and general manager of CNN/U.S. He was vice president of news for Viacom's (VIA.B: down $0.05 to $43.79, Research, Estimates) Television Stations Group, where he oversaw news coverage.

Ryan, who was responsible for day-to-day news operation including all aspects of programming, resigned to "pursue opportunities outside the CNN organization."

3. The Fauxification of CNN didn't work

Their viewership has dwindled even more since they started to court the Faux legions, while Faux has gained even more viewers. Hence the changes.

Maybe, just maybe, they will realize that there is a huge untapped viewership out there, the same people that have made Hillary's, Franken's and Michael Moore's books such huge bestsellers and who are starving for a "fair and balanced" presentation of the news.

But I won't hold my breath.

I think they have been for a long long long time now. Perhaps just a little bit more subtle. The only big different is that CNN does change around
their programs. Nothing ever changes at FOX.

That's funny! Journalistic ideology! I don't think our inglorious cable companies (FOX, the NBCs, or CNN) practice journalism or employ journalists. They are propagandists first and last. They operate as in the old USSR. They are the cabals' mouthpieces. They are partners with the true authors and operatives of our destruction.

Also ran KCBS-TV news in LA in 2000-2002.

I know little more about him and nothing about his objectivity. But there's at least an even chance he's an honest journalist, given that he is a black man, most (though not all) of whom have a real appreciation for the vagaries of our system and its manipulators.

Prior to joining the corporate ranks of Viacom, Hair was news director at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles and at WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

His new position includes responsibility for the Atlanta-based network's prime-time lineup, which has slipped in the ratings.

CNN president Jim Walton, in a memo announcing the switch, said Hair's "professional credentials are extensive and impressive, but what makes him such a strong addition to the seasoned CNN executive team is his demonstrated ability to lead a news organization. He combines practical newsroom experience and a deep respect for journalists and their craft with business acumen and the ability to foster communication and respect."

Walton also said the network's newsgathering structure is being changed.

"Effective immediately, Newsgathering shifts from operating as a stand-alone unit between CNN Domestic and CNN International to a function of each unit. The Newsgathering infrastructure -- the people and resources operating within that framework -- is being integrated into the Domestic and International units, closer to programming decision-making and the journalism that ultimately airs."
