Mr Hoon's critics should admit they did not wish to give thanks for the overthrow of a tyranny they were content to preserve
Bruce Anderson

Poor Geoff Hoon. As ministerial careers move into terminal decline, there often comes a moment when the hapless figure awaiting dismissal cannot seem to get anything right; everything he says is twisted against him. Thus matters stand with Mr Hoon, who is now being anathematised by the Bench of Bishops.

1. Several things are wrong with this!!!!!
1- Politics are religion are wrong (as a minister I openly say that.)
2- A national church makes no sense to me. National means every one in the country is a Christian, this is obviously not right.
3- As a ex-militay man, any American that does not support the troops needs to re-think their country of origin. It is ok to opose a war, but not the men & wemon that are just doing their job's. Trust me thay do not want to be their.
4- They are false leaders to turn on anyone. As a christian I will help anyone I can, rich, poor, white, black or whatever.
5- Maybe they should learn from Mother Theresa!

3. remember that this is an opinion, not the facts
Here's the news on which the opinion was based (go to the bottom of the piece):

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/story.jsp?story=443490

He faced new criticism yesterday as the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral, the Very Rev John Moses, intervened to prevent a national service of remembrance for the Iraq war being billed as a thanksgiving for victory. Mr Hoon had told MPs the service would "give thanks for the role UK forces played in ending tyranny in Iraq".

Dr Moses said: "We made it quite plain that the service could only include remembrance of those who had died in battle, and prayers for the people of Iraq and for peace.

"Anything which gave the impression of a victory parade seemed to us to be totally inappropriate."
.....

Personally, I wouldn't trust Bruce Anderson to give me the correct time of day. Not quite Rush Limbaugh, but not far off. I'm amazed the Independent gives him room.
