Wisconsin Republicans gear up for governor's race 22 months away

MADISON - U.S. Rep. Mark Green says Gov. Jim Doyle is an out-of-touch Madison liberal. Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker says the governor just doesn't understand how most Wisconsinites think.

Sounds like a couple of Republicans gearing up their campaigns for governor.

Almost two years before voters will go to the polls, Green and Walker sent signals last week they intend to seek the GOP nomination to run for governor, stepping up their criticisms of Doyle, a Democrat.

The two are reaching out from their regional bases to introduce themselves to Wisconsin residents and making steps toward putting into place the campaigns they will need to take on what will probably be a well-financed incumbent.

They need to get out and work now on this race. It is a 22 month process, we need to be getting geared up for the '06 House races right NOW. We need to start on the '06 Senate races now, we need to get going on the '06 Governor races now. You work your butt off for about 2 years, take three weeks to catch your breath then start over again on the next election cycle.
