China slams US sanctions against Chinese companies as 'not wise'

BEIJING, Jan 18 (AFP) - China said Tuesday it was "not wise" of the United States to slap new sanctions on Chinese firms suspected of helping Iran in its quest for weapons of mass destruction and missiles.

"The US government's wanton launch of sanctions against Chinese companies without real evidence is not a wise choice," foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan told a regular briefing.

A State Department notice published in the latest issue of the Federal Register said the companies are being penalized for transferring to Iran "equipment and technology controlled under multilateral export control lists."

A company from Taiwan and one from North Korea have also been targeted by the US decision.

I think China now has enough nukes with accurate delivery systems that it is certainly not "wise" at all to threaten one's creditor in this way.

I may be underestimating the HAARP project's ability to neutralize incoming Chinese ballistic missiles. That's the only way these sorts of threats make any sense at all.
