Jan. 18 (BCN) — Preparations are under way today at San Quentin State Prison for the execution of convicted killer Donald Beardslee early Wednesday morning.
Inside the prison walls, this means a lockdown, with inmate movement halted for the day, a prison official said today.
Outside the prison walls, protesters against the death penalty will converge on San Quentin whether or not Beardslee's appeals, to the governor and the U.S. Supreme Court, are successful in stopping his 12:01 a.m. execution.
A group of anti-death penalty protesters began a long walk from San Francisco at 7 a.m. today and should arrive at the prison around 6 p.m. At that time, St. Paul's Episcopal Church has scheduled a service and assembly for protesters at the prison.
