SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A top aide to Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry announced on Monday that he had left the lawmaker's presidential campaign.
"I resigned from the Kerry campaign," said Chris Lehane, Kerry's communications director, who worked on Vice President Al Gore's campaign in 2000 and for former President Bill Clinton before that.
"Senator Kerry is a great American who has assembled a superb team to take on George W. Bush and I wish him and the campaign the best of luck as they go forward."
He declined to give a reason for his departure.

Lehane is a San Francisco -based public relations expert whose partner, Mark Fabiani -- another former Clinton administration official -- is advising former NATO Cmdr. Wesley Clark.
In the coming days, Clark is expected to announce whether he will run for president.
