World Trade Center Restaurant Reopens10:28 am EST January 19, 2005NEW YORK -- It won't offer the same views that Windows on the World did, but a new restaurant in New York City will give some 9/11 survivors a new future.
The owners are 34 immigrant workers who lost their jobs and some friends the day their restaurant atop the World Trade Center's north tower was destroyed. The new eatery will be called "Colors," located in Greenwich Village.
The workers are getting
help from a nonprofit co-op that's handling the $21,000 per month rent.
One waiter said "Colors" will not have mementos from Windows on the World. He said the owners won't forget their 73 co-workers who died on 9/11, but they don't want to attract customers with sympathy. He said they want a steady business based on good food and a good atmosphere.
