Whether you are sent to DC through election or appointment, you have an ethical, moral and professional obligation to do your job of representing the people, and make your voice heard. The silence is deafening.
I have to ask my self why? Who gains? The answer is obvious. We know how the media will gain through downsizing of staff and overhead. My outrage is directed squarely at Michael Powell. His unwillingness to hold public debate, listen to opposing views only confirms his own personal/professional agenda. This decision is self-serving and lays the groundwork for future employment in the private sector after he leaves government. As a lawyer, with a specialty in anti-trust matters, mergers and government regulation in the telecommunication industry his private sector employment is in demand. After this ruling all the major broadcast companies will be standing in line to show their appreciation.
When the sun goes down on June 2nd I will light a memorial candle for the 1st Amendment and the future of this great country, and shed a few tears…the ramifications of this ruling will not be understood for years.
