Phoenix Officials Asking Residents to Boil Water Because of Treatment Plan

PHOENIX (AP) - The 1.4 million residents of Phoenix were warned Tuesday to boil drinking water or use bottled water until further notice because of problems at treatment plants.
Muddy water caused by recent storms was flowing into one of the city's two operating water treatment plants, reducing the output of that plant, officials said.

Two other treatment plants were shut down for maintenance, and a third was closed by damage, leaving only one of the city's five water treatment plants producing at full capacity.

Besides boiling water for drinking, residents were told to take short showers, shut off landscape watering and use bottled water for brushing teeth, making ice, preparing food and washing dishes.

2. This is hardly the first time for Phoenix....

Or other cities, for that matter.

Last year there was a similar deal in Phoenix (mostly in the poor areas, as usual). And before that too. In 2003 Phoenix ranked with the bottom 5 of U.S. cities in tap water quality. And Phoenix has been cited for "failing to comply with basic water safety monitoring and reporting requirements."

Great. We're in the middle of the frickin' desert and the morons in this backward state can't even figure out how to manage this precious resource.

Remember this as water privatization comes up in the years to come.... *sigh*

by reTHUGlican lobbyists...never gets regulated under the requirements for SAFE DRINKING WATER...

look on the FOOD LABEL of bottled water: Calories, Fat, Sugars, Protein, etc...zero zero zero.......IT's a FOOD, not SAFE WATER....


because reTHUGlicans made it impossible to test bottled water for toxins, under the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act....YOU CAN BOTTLE WATER OUT OF YOUR TOILET and sell it, usually with a polar bear, or mountain or glacier on the label....

6. when I called the City of Phoenix with questions

I asked them if my filtration system water was safe to drink. They told me not to use my system because the debris could clog my system. We have had rains before, why are our rains this time different then before?

my local supermarket was almost out of water as of 1:30pm. This was after their second shipment today.

11. I dunno for sure, but there is less and less unpaved land in the area...

for the rain to go, and that may just have something to do with it.

as we expand out into the suburbs, ad more mcmansions to overburdened sanitation systems, and cling to the "add our poo to our drinking water and mix it with rainstorm runoff" water mismanagement system.
