Robert Wexler, D-Fla., has called for the ouster of the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for misuse of disaster funds.
Wexler said Michael D. Brown is responsible for "massive misallocation" of disaster aid following the four hurricanes that hit Florida last weekend, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.
Wexler said more than
$30 million in payments for damage from Hurricane Frances went to residents of Miami-Dade County, 100 miles south of the storm's landfall."I am sure you agree that such a gross waste of taxpayer monies cannot be taken lightly," Wexler said in a letter to President Bush. "I respectively request that you immediately remove Michael D. Brown, undersecretary of Homeland Security."
White House spokesman Taylor Gross said Bush has not seen Wexler's letter but stands by Brown.
