Jordanians are wary Iraq's upcoming poll will not be honest under U.S. occupation and might lead to civil war.

"I don't believe that matters will be any better in Iraq after the poll and this is mainly due to the continuation of U.S. occupation," businessman Sadek Adli, 44, told UPI.

Among an estimated 200,000 eligible Iraqi voters in Jordan, only 11,000 have so far registered their names in polling centers set up by the International Immigration Organization, which is overseeing the voting of Iraqi expatriates.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber struck on Monday near a checkpoint on a street leading to Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's party office, wounding at least 10 people in the latest guerrilla attack before Jan. 30 elections.

Officials in Allawi's office said the prime minister was not in the area in western Baghdad at the time. Health Ministry officials said seven policemen and three civilians were wounded.

The blast echoed across central Baghdad, and a plume of smoke rose from the scene of the bombing. U.S. and Iraqi troops sealed off the area and helicopters buzzed overhead.

If I were an Iraqi, I'd be getting FAR FAR away from any polling place.

6. I heard on NPR that poll workers

are supposed to get paid $500 for working that day. That's a small fortune, and considered necessary considering the threat level for the election.
