SEVERAL Australian soldiers were injured today when a car bomb exploded near their patrol vehicle in Baghdad - the second incident involving Australian military casualties in a week.
The Department of Defence said "a number of soldiers" was injured, with two requiring surgery, when the bomb exploded during a routine patrol in the Iraqi capital.
In a separate incident today, insurgents fired on Australian forces near the Australian embassy in Baghdad, defence said.
No Australians were injured in that shooting.
Today's two incidents came a week after two Australian soldiers were injured in a car bomb blast outside the Australian security detachment's accommodation in Baghdad.
