Insurgents Launch Attacks in at Least Seven Provinces, Killing a Dozen People in Countdown to Iraq's Election

By Robert H. Reid Associated Press Writer
Published: Jan 28, 2005

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Insurgents stepped up attacks Thursday against polling centers across Iraq, killing at least a dozen people, including a U.S. Marine, in the rebel campaign to frighten Iraqis away from participating in this weekend's election.
As part of an intensifying campaign of intimidation, an al-Qaida affiliate led by Jordanian terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi posted a videotape on the Internet showing the murder of a candidate from the party of interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi.

The tape included a warning to Allawi personally: "You traitor, wait for the angel of death."

To protect voters on Sunday, hundreds of American soldiers began moving out of their massive garrison on the western edge of Baghdad to take up positions at smaller bases throughout the city to respond more quickly to any election day attacks.

Sunni Muslim insurgents have threatened to disrupt the balloting, when Iraqis choose a 275-member National Assembly and governing councils in the country's 18 provinces. Voters in the Kurdish self-governing area of the north will select a new regional parliament.

population of Iraq are in those 4 provinces.

That still leaves 46% able to vote so just ignore that violance in them other 3 provinces that's all just sand provinces anyways.

And besides we caught the guy, Jan 15, who was doing 75% of all attacks in Iraq so actually there are LESS attacks now.

*sarcasm*

4. I think he is "uncaught" again, and probably one of his legs grew back.
I know he is constantly being caught, but I think that at this very moment, he is considered "at large".

5. Was one of his "deputies" or something, can't remember the name
but not WonderLeg himself. The bushCartel were saying the guy was behind 75% of the attacks. Until then they were saying WonderLeg was behind 75% of the attacks. Starting to kinda sound like they really don't have a f*cking clue, ya ask me. *snark*

They've not explained why attacks have increased since his capture Jan 15 though. They must have forgotten. :D

7. Absolutely EVERYTHING the wee cowboy touches turns toxic....
He and Cheney will be judged ever-so-harshly by history for their
wanton destruction of the greatest country in the world, both nationally and internationally.

8. Watch the "spin" on all this.
The bu$hco cycle will be in over drive. Bif and Buffy (the best of the best), the media has to offer, will be reporting from the Green Zone with fake precinct backdrops and sound effects to boot. Exit polls will prove that there is overwhelming support for Bu$hie's democracy and Allawi the defender of freedom and liberty.

By the end of the weekend you'll be looking in the mirror and asking "who am I".

Welcome one and all to the ultimate political spin. :silly: :wtf: :nuke:

9. .....gotta truck in some new Generals to trot out to CNN & FAUX
to inform the mindless how Democracy is on the march and how well the situation is at the polling stations.

What a waste!

10. I hate to say it...
But I have just been waiting for the attacks to start this weekend. I would be surprised if it did not happen. It is sad that this is no longer shocking or surprising.
