College Republicans Plan 'Straight Pride Week'

EDMOND, Okla. -- A University of Central Oklahoma student group is planning what it calls "Straight Pride Week" on campus.

Members of the College Republicans said despite objections from some, they have every right to celebrate.

"The general gist is that if you are a straight student on campus be proud, be loud, this is your time to shine," said college Republican Kyle Houts.

The group has posted fliers on campus that read, "we're here, we're conservative, we're out."

As a fraternity man myself, I'd have to disagree with the fact that all young men drawn to "frats" have sexual issues. The "assgames" go on about as much as the orgies, and with the hectic schedule of todays undergraduate student, there's just not much time for that.

Large groups of people, especially men, tend to make stupid decisions. That happens wherever you go. But that's not everyone, and that's not all of my brothers.

In my much younger days,I ran the UT Republicans. In those days, we were a minority group (in numbers) on campus. We focused on encouraging debate about issues like deficit spending, etc. (of course, this was back in the day where that meant something to republicans). My former party was, at the time, quite tolerant and driven toward a goal of leaving a legacy of responsibility. By the 80's, all had changed. I am now happy to have joined the new party of lifetime responsibility.

I met a group of 3 male students from UCO the other day. They were busy making complete asses of themselves while paying a bill. Seems the person taking their payment was informing them of an impending cut-off of service due to non-payment (from what I could get out of it, it was 3 months past-due), and they took offense at this. What seemed to offend them more was that the billing representative seemed rather, well, gay, and I got the impression it irked them to have the the news of their credit rating going into the toilet along with their ability to acquire service being given them by a gay man.

They made a threatening gesture, expelled a long stream of profanity, and told the guy they were going to kick his ass. Not half a second later, this HUGE security guard had one of them by the neck, and ten seconds after that he and his friends were in the parking lot being read the riot act. Shortly after this the police were on hand, and the original offender ended up with a free ride somewhere probably not too nice.

The best part is that after the guard took control, everyone else in the office was either laughing at them or clapping for the security guard.

I'd bet my next paycheck this guy will be at this "event."

That's what we did when they had "Straight Pride Day" at the University of Texas. The dykes started wearing their t-shirts and holding hands in public to show solidarity with our straight brothers and sisters... WE SUPPORT THEIR COURAGE. We had no idea it was so hard for them to accept themselves.

Also, my girlfriend is very butch and I am very femme. We almost look like our struggling straight friends! So we wore shirts in solidarity too.

I then pointed out to her this flier we had on our table that referred to our national debt, and she shut the hell up. For someone who is supposed all about the money, she had nothing to say about her leader running us into the ground.

To get on topic...I'm not at all surprised by this Straight Pride Week thing. I've heard of these types of events before.
