Five U.S. Soldiers Killed In Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Five American soldiers were killed Friday by roadside bombs and a shooting attack in Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Three soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb hit their patrol at about 4:30 p.m. in western Baghdad. Another soldier was slightly wounded in the attack, the military said.

Earlier, a bomb in a southern neigbhorhood killed a soldier and wounded three others at about 2 p.m. Another soldier was shot dead about 15 minutes later in the city's north, the military said in a statement. It provided no further details.

their kids died for freedom and democracy and keeping America safe. If the parents live with their loss, why should the rest of America give a damn? Mail them a neatly wrapped flag and a machine signed letter of condolence and send them on their way.

11. An acquaintance yesterday argued that nearly as many soldiers...

... are killed yearly in "domestic training accidents" as are killed in combat/training accidents in Iraq.

I wanted to punch him. Instead I just asked him if he'd be willing to repeat his outrageous, not to mention wildly inaccurate, rationalization to the parents of a slain US soldier serving in Iraq.

Is this some kind of rationale that's being repeated on conservative talk radio? I'm hearing it more and more lately.

13. I just watched "Outfoxed". There was a similar meme they used in the

beginning of the invasion--comparing the number of deaths to deaths from traffic accidents (I think) in California. They even had a graphic comparing the size of Iraq to California. So--no big deal, you see.

I believe that's roughly the number of Iraqi police and national guard killed last year in Iraq.

to back up that claim. These people pull stuff out of their asses and don't think they need to back it up with actual evidence.

I think Randi Rhodes gets it right when she talks about the repubs supporting the war and not supporting the troops. They need to be called on it at every opportunity.

Sunday is going to be hell in Iraq. I can just picture suicide bombers standing in voting lines and polling stations waiting for the max amount of people before they detonate themselves. What a tragedy.

It's the elections, baby! Why, I heard the daughter of an Iraqi-born national on CNN this morning, while casting her vote in a voting booth near Detroit, say she hasn't felt this wonderful since her wedding day. Too bad she's never experienced voting or freedom before, being, I dunno, American and all.

Just wondering... I was born in Michigan, so does this mean I can vote in the '08 Michigan primaries? Or the Michigan gubernatorial?

Can someone explain this to me? Because, my great-grandmother was Ukranian, and I really feel cheated that I couldn't vote for Yuschenko.
