Time Warner Set To Drop AOL Name
(CBS) A key symbol of the troubled merger of Time Warner and America Online is on the chopping block. The Washington Post reports that the media giant will drop AOL from its name on Thursday.
The newspaper said the company's board of directors was expected to approve the elimination of the AOL name at its monthly meeting in New York on Thursday.
The company logo will get a makeover and the firm's stock ticker designation will go back to "TWX."
Since the $112 billion merger took place in January 2001, AOL has been damaged by what proved to be grossly overvalued stock, a huge debt and an ongoing federal probe of allegations that the online giant artificially inflated revenue and profits. It also faces more than 30 shareholder lawsuits.
