A chilling message to Muslims

..Kutty and Hamid were finally released and sent home after a bizarre 31-hour ordeal — a post-9/11experience you might say — that began when they landed in Florida last Thursday, climaxed with 16 hours of non-stop interrogation plus a night in jail, and ended with the two Canadians being escorted back to Fort Lauderdale's airport in handcuffs.

Ironically, the pair — both of whom are imams in Toronto — were on their way to a conference dealing with, among other things, the dangers of Islamic fanaticism..

"Some Muslims used to call me a paid agent of America because I stood up for their ideals of freedom and dignity ..."But if the American immigration officials can go after me and Hamid who are well-known for preaching moderation, what happens to ordinary Muslims?"

A good question.

Ask Maher Arar, the Canadian citizen deported to Syria by the U.S. last October — allegedly with the connivance of Canadian security forces — so that he could be jailed and, according to human rights groups, tortured.

2. Florida and the Bush

What can you expect from a state run (into the ground) by Jeb Bush? The governor's race had to be rigged. Noone with any sense would have voted for that disaster. What I cannot understand is why the NAACP did not insist that all those erroneously removed voters were not restored before 2002 election. I would be livid if the government had cheated me out of my right to vote twice. From what I have been able to garner, these voters are still not restored. We may all have to travel to Florida for the next election. No White House lackey is going to scare me.

3. Canadian Muslims going to the MidEast now avoid US airports...

...according to CBC.

They interviewed a Muslim husband/wife team of travel agents. NONE of their clients are being ticketed through US airports.

Can't say that I blame them.

7. Travel patterns

At one point External Affairs Canada put out an advisory strongly recomending that Canadian muslims or immigrants from muslim countries not visit or transit the US for any reason. These kind of travel advisories are typically issued against countries like Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Burma, and occupied Gaza. What interesting company the US finds itself keeping these days.

6. I am harassed on a regular basis...

Having a Muslim first name. Airport security is just treating me like dirt, even after I present my Military ID card. They don't know what to do with a white guy with a muslim name and a christian last name.
