Wounded Kentucky Soldier Flees To Canada
http://www.wkyt.com/Global/story.asp?S=2883920

A soldier from Lexington wounded in Iraq says he fled to Canada rather than return to his Army unit.

Darrell Anderson knows he might be allowed to stay in Canada, but he may never be able to return home again to see his parents or his four-year-old daughter, who now lives with her mother.

Anderson, who says he's in Toronto, also knows that he could be turned away by the Canadian government, possibly to face prison for desertion in the United States.

~snip~

He went to Iraq a year later with the Army's First Armored Division. Anderson was wounded by a roadside bomb in April. He received the Purple Heart.

2. I hope Canada doesn't turn him away
it's one of our few remaining "checks and balances" on the U.S. government treating us like serfs.

3. if a soldier with a purple heart doesn't deserve a pardon, who does?
they risk their good health and lives for our freedom, then we throw them in prison!

5. They risk their lives for our freedom?
How's that?

Is there an ongoing war besides Iraq or Afghanistan that I haven't heard about?

How has any US war in the last 50 years protected our freedom?

8. good question..
These soldiers risk their lives for our freedom, and they only follow orders for us. Then corporate America use them as slaves to line those pockets.

9. Agree. Nobody is protecting my freedom by dying in Iraq.
It's pure propoganda. I can't stand it when I hear anyone saying that tripe. My freedom? Oh and next I'm gonna hear about 9/11 and how killing Iraqis and destroying their country somehow equals keeping my freedom safe? Pah leeze.

The way I look at it, I protect my freedom -- by being an informed citizen and voting. And surprise -- I don't even cheat on my taxes.

And..if we are being attacked, let's bring the troops home to stand the borders and protect our freedom.

12. weeeell excuse meeeeeeeeeeeeee!@!
I only want this shitty war to end. Fighting this war is a threat to our national security and civil liberties. Perhaps we should cut their pay, benefits and throw them all in prison! So if we lose, they shouldn't get paid??...ahh you're sooo sweet

blame the troops for the President's actions?

13. Yes, They Risk Their Lives For Our Freedom
It is the mission of the United States Armed Services to protect this country and fight for the liberties we enjoy as a society.

It sure as fuck isn't THEIR fault if they are being thrown under the bus by this administration. The fact that they wear that uniform is testament to their pledge to defend this country and freedom.

11. Republicans don't care about Purple Hearts
They will give him a comical band-aid though, and tell him to go get wounded again.
